Home Performance XML: Purpose and Status

The HPXML schema is an open standard that provides the basis for exchange of information about home efficiency between contractors and supporting programs. The schema is a set of rules in XML format that can be commonly implemented and followed by software developers.  The open standard allows users to exchange the information that is necessary for their individual needs, and does not require exchange of any particular data set.

Following use by home performance programs and review by an advisory group of technical and contractor experts, HPXML is being proposed as a technical standard of the Building Performance Institute.
